Magyary Zoltán Association for e-Government Sciences

The association chose Magyary Zoltán’s name, since the founding members wanted to pay their respects to this outstanding figure of Hungarian public administration history, an academic and policymaker whose approach and views, even though 60 years have passed since his death, are entirely within the mainstream of contemporary strategic thinking. Magyary envisioned a public administration that serves the public; outlined the vision of an effective state which assumes only those tasks which it can deliver at a cost lower than (or the same as) other organizations, but at a better quality. Magyary sketched an image of a Hungary which, as a “laboratory” of the post-industrial world, could become a winner of great social and economic changes through a systematic development of excellence in higher education, science, public libraries and museums. This is why many think that Magyary Zoltán can be considered one of the earliest pioneers of Hungary’s information society concept.

The Magyary Zoltán Association for e-Government Sciences was legally established on the day the Registry Court accepted its petition, May 26, 2005. Its members are IT experts, sociologists, lawyers, successful managers from the public and private sector, as well as renowned experts. They have in common a desire to do something for public administration, to work for improving social and economic conditions, and responsibility for the common good. Their association seeks to contribute to Hungary’s successful emergence through the academic study of e-government, creating policy recommendations, and professional publications.
